FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Myy channel is growing daily and so are the comments on new and old videos as well as the amount of emails I receive. In an effort to cut down the number of questions/emails before it gets out of hand, I have created this F.A.Q. So, please read through before contacting me.

HOW DO I CONTACT YOU?

The best way to contact me is via the form on my website that is located here.

I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT AN ORDER I PLACED.

You can also use the form that is located on the contact page or send an email to [email protected]. Please note that this email is for orders only and other inquiries will be ignored. Send any other correspondence or questions through the contact form on the website.

CAN I BUY ONE OF THE ITEMS YOU RESTORED?

Yes absolutely and it will help the channel survive. Everything that I deem worthy of selling or that I don’t want to keep for myself are sold on my website in the “items for sale” section. If it’s not there, it was either sold or not for sale. Once an item is sold it does not remain on the website, the listing is retired to avoid confusion.

CAN YOU REPAIR MY COMPUTER, GAME CONSOLE OR OTHER ELECTRONICS?

Short answer is DEPENDS. I get many requests for this but there are a few things to know:

  1. I mostly focus on restorations and do this between shows so you cannot be in a hurry.
  2. Unfortunately, please understand that I cannot work for free and buy parts. So, offering for me to fix your stuff for free as part of the show is not an incentive.
  3. It is costly to ship the item to me and have it shipped back to you and it requires shipping insurance. Add to this parts and labor. If I cannot get parts or the unit is beyond repair/restoration, you will still have to pay shipping costs. So, unless it’s something of sentimental value or that you intend to keep, it might be better to find someone locally.
  4. Because the equipment being restored is normally anywhere between thirty and fifty years old, and because there is a shipping risk (and why shipping insurance is necessary) I cannot offer any warranty on the work. I work meticulously on all restorations but sometimes, like an old house, you fix something, and something else breaks shortly after.

I’m not trying to discourage anyone, I simply want to put things into perspective so there are no surprises or misunderstandings. Gone are the old days of fixing a VCR and getting a $20-$40 invoice for it; expect to pay hundreds. If you’re still interested, you can contact me and we’ll take it from there. Be ready to provide me with the make and model number, a picture and a description of the problem. If you are a museum, contact me with all the details and we’ll arrange a call.

CAN YOU RECOMMEND SOMEONE FOR FIXING MY STUFF?

I am located in Montreal, Canada. If I am unable to do it, I can recommend one or two people in my area but I don’t know anyone or have any contacts outside of the Montreal, Canada area.

MY EQUIPMENT IS DOING X, DO YOU KNOW WHAT’S WRONG WITH IT? HOW CAN I FIX IT?

I often answer people and do my best to help them but I am unable to diagnose problems without having the item in front of me. I also cannot teach you how to repair over email. Most of the old electronics always suffers from the same thing; old capacitors that don’t provide the correct voltage and have ESR so they cannot filter properly anymore, dirty heads on VCRs and Tape Decks, dirty cartridge ports on game consoles. Retro and Vintage equipment is anywhere from twenty-five to sixty years old and has all sorts of problem and has sometimes seen years of abuse. I don’t have any magical answers so please don’t be upset if I say “I don’t know” or I’m unable to help you.

I HAVE AN ITEM FOR SALE ARE YOU INTERESTED?

NO. However, if you want to DONATE equipment to help support the channel contact me here and let me know what it is. It does NOT guarantee that I will make a show out of it either, it all depends on many factors.

DO YOU DO SPONSORSHIPS OR REVIEW EQUIPMENT?

Yes absolutely. If you are interested in sponsoring please get in touch with me with the details via my contact page. Please note that I am currently sponsored by PCBWay so as long as the sponsorship is not in direct competition with their services, I can take on more sponsors.

I accept most product reviews but prefer that it stays within the niche of electronics or retro gaming. I might say no if it’s the third multimeter in a row I’m reviewing because viewers will not watch so it won’t be good for you or for me. However, if you have a product that you think might interest my viewers / subscribers please send me details of the product and your company’s website demonstrating the product. I review products honestly and cannot guarantee a positive review of your product.

Please note that not because I receive your product the next day that I can review it right away. I  have shows planned and I do reviews in between. Sometimes I can already be working on three projects at the same time. I will however provide you with a time frame and I work on a first come, first served basis.
